July 2022 Umuzi Kickers

July has come and gone and so has winter, presumably of course. Things don’t seem to following the expected script this time around. It rained in July, for goodness’ sake, well depending on where you were in the country. We can attribute this change in weather to how real global warming is but, another way to look at it is to simply acknowledge that things change.

Our community knows change very well. July has been synonymous with this truth, so let’s see what changes this July Kicker has in store for us.

Welcome to Umuzi

UCT & AWS Gang

Since inception, with Andrew & Gil in the forefront, Umuzi has been out to change the narrative of young, talented and unemployed people’s lives in South Africa. Irrespective of the season & the size of its community, Umuzi have charged on and done the very thing they set out to do since 2014.

Fast track to the year 2022, Umuzi in partnership with the University of Cape Town, have successfully launched the UCT Digital Bootcamp; A programme specifically targeted at UCT students whose studies have been interrupted at the university. In July, we kicked off our unofficial onboarding with the famous rite of passage, MUB sprint.

What an incredible group of individuals they are. A big welcome to them all, we are thrilled to have them join our community. Looking forward to seeing their vibrancy & zeal for knowledge permeate the space.

Throwback of the Month

This month's throwback is all about breaking into the industry.  This is dependent on the industry in question, of course. In this case, How to Get into Bed with Big Brands. Mikey & Rob give us some key insights on getting into the industry.

Mikey attributes his success to his belief in his hunger. He says that when you are hungry, your mind taps out of its normal way of doing things. This then opens you up to explore new ways of dealing with the blockers in your life. Depending on how you look at it, this is not a hunger of the stomach, but a hunger to change your situation. Very powerful stuff.

Enjoy the video.
