Our purpose is to reduce social inequality in Africa through digital education. We could use a little help getting that right :) There are lots of people with big brains and big hearts who want to help out in different ways. We want to set those folks up to do good work.

If you are interested in volunteering at Umuzi, then this is for you! read on to discover all the different ways you can plug in, what to expect from us, and the stuff we are working on.

OPPORTUNITIES

We have a few different things a volunteer can do. These are described in the pages that follow.

Coming soon:

We are still working on implementing these volunteering opportunities. Take a look, if you are interested then we would like to know about it:

Why so few opportunities?

You may have noticed that there are not a lot of different things we are asking for help with at the moment. The reason for this is: Umuzi is complicated, and volunteers do require oversight from our side. If we accept volunteers and then just let them do what they want to then things get a little chaotic.

What we are doing is building out a few user journeys for volunteers.

Our goals are to:

  • Hit organization needs that we know about. We have a few big workloads that we can use help on.

Set volunteers up for success and wholesomeness: We know a lot about our industry, and volunteers should benefit from that knowledge.

We will be rolling out other user journeys and opportunities over time. And we are always open to suggestions!

Volunteer User Journey (so far)

Each different volunteering opportunity has a different user journey. But they all have some kind of overlap. Here is the basic workflow:

  1. You apply to be a volunteer. When you apply you will tell us about what you are interested in doing (maybe you are interested in multiple things), how much time you have for us, what skills and experience you have, and a few other things.

  2. Our staff will look at your application and figure out where to slot you in. They will then reach out to you and let you know what your specific next steps are.

  3. You will be invited to take part in whatever training is needed. Different opportunities have different required skills and we want to make sure you are set up for success here.

  4. You'll then get to actually do the work of volunteering.

  5. You will be invited to give feedback on the process at different points in the journey.
